The club's journey towards this expansion began with an initial grant of £350,000 from Broadland Properties, and the North Yorkshire Council has now stepped in to provide the remaining funds, a decision that has been hailed as a major boost for grassroots sport.
Ryan Ashworth, a dedicated boxing coach and long-time member of the club, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, 'This investment is a fantastic opportunity to strengthen grassroots sport and secure the club's future for the next 100 years.' He further emphasized the club's commitment to supporting young people and vulnerable adults, providing them with a safe and positive environment to develop confidence, discipline, and life skills. With members spanning a wide age range from nine to 86, Westway Boxing Club is a true community hub, and the expansion will only enhance its ability to serve the local population.
