Realme GT 8 Pro Unboxing and First Look! Swappable Camera Bumps and Powerful Specs (2025)

Prepare to be amazed: the Realme GT 8 Pro is more than just a smartphone—it's a design statement! Scheduled for a global launch on November 20, we managed to get our hands on the device early, giving us the chance to examine every detail up close. And trust us, the design is where this phone truly shines.

What sets the GT 8 Pro apart is its innovative swappable camera bump. Realme offers users the freedom to not only change the shape—rectangular or circular—but also the color and finish. There’s even a playful robot-themed option. If you’re feeling minimalist, you could leave it completely off, giving the phone a sleek, bumperless appearance. It’s an unusual level of customization rarely seen in smartphones, and it’s hard not to get excited about the possibilities.

At our HQ, we got a full set of the seven initial camera bump options, and we’ve lined them up for a visual showcase. In markets such as India, Italy, Spain, Poland, and France, each phone will come with one bump pre-installed and a spare included in the box, while additional bumps will be available for separate purchase. Realme assures that these accessories will be accessible in all markets where the GT 8 Pro is sold.

Attaching a new camera bump is simple: they secure to the camera island with two T4 screws. To make this process easy, Realme includes a compact Torx screwdriver and two extra screws in the box.

Under the hood, the GT 8 Pro runs on Android 16 with Realme UI 7.0, which closely mirrors Oppo's ColorOS 16. For users already familiar with Oppo devices, this interface will feel intuitive while adding Realme’s unique touches.

Let’s talk unboxing: the GT 8 Pro comes in a stacked box that’s almost like opening a treasure chest. Inside, you’ll find a 120W fast charger, a USB-A to USB-C cable, a small Torx screwdriver, two extra screws, and a protective case. The phone ships with a circular camera bump installed, and naturally, the included case has a circular cutout to match. If you prefer a rectangular look, Realme offers an alternative case with a corresponding rectangular bump—letting you personalize the phone’s appearance completely.

Even the cases are thoughtfully designed to accommodate the different bump styles, which is a small but impressive detail that shows Realme’s attention to customization.

The unit we tested is the Urban Blue variant, a muted greyish tone that’s understated yet sophisticated. It combines a flat glass front, flat matte metal sides, and a vegan leather back panel with a textured finish that feels surprisingly luxurious. The phone is comfortable to hold and feels secure in the hand.

Powering the GT 8 Pro is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Elite processor, which we already benchmarked and found to deliver top-tier performance. You’re essentially getting a full-fledged flagship experience, capable of handling anything from intense gaming to demanding multitasking with ease.

We also took some initial photos to show what the cameras can do. The primary camera supports Ricoh GR mode, allowing shots in 28mm, 35mm, 40mm, and 50mm equivalent focal lengths. Our examples are from the 28mm setting. It’s worth noting that the 200MP periscope telephoto camera only supports high-resolution shots at 3x magnification, not 1x. We’ve reached out to Realme about the possibility of adding a 1x option via a future OTA update.

Here’s a quick look at some sample shots:
- Primary camera, 12MP, 1x magnification (24mm)
- Primary camera, 12MP, 1.1x magnification (28mm)
- Primary camera (Ricoh GR Mode), 11MP, 1.1x magnification (28mm)
- Primary camera, 50MP, 1x and 3x magnifications
- Periscope telephoto, 201MP, 3x magnification

Each photo demonstrates the camera’s versatility and the high level of detail you can capture. But here’s where it gets controversial: some users might argue that limiting the 200MP telephoto to 3x shots restricts creativity. What do you think? Should Realme add 1x high-resolution support, or is this a minor inconvenience?

That’s our first hands-on with the Realme GT 8 Pro. Stay tuned—we’ll have more in-depth testing and photography samples soon. Meanwhile, we’d love to hear your thoughts: which camera bump would you choose, and do you think Realme’s customization approach is a game-changer or just a gimmick?
