Nike is gearing up for spring with a delightful new iteration of the iconic Air Force 1. The shoe is adorned with a cherry blossom-themed graphic, a playful twist on the classic design. But here's where it gets interesting: the cherry blossom overlay is removable, revealing a subtle and elegant colorway underneath.
The cherry blossom, a symbol of the spring months, holds cultural significance in Japan and is celebrated in Washington, D.C. during the springtime. This connection inspired Nike's 2024 'DMV' Air Foamposite One release and has a past association with the Air Force 1, notably featured on the 2005 Ueno Sakura style. Despite its iconic status, Nike has been experimenting with the Air Force 1, transforming it into everything from waterproof winterized footwear to skateboarding shoes, showcasing its versatility and staying power.
The Air Force 1's journey began in 1982 as a high-top performance basketball shoe, but it almost met its end in 1984. A group of Baltimore sneaker store owners intervened, persuading Nike to keep the shoe in production. This decision proved to be a game-changer, as the Air Force 1 soon became a bonafide hit.
The new 'Spring Flowers' Air Force 1 '07 Cherry Blossom style is essentially two sneakers in one. While it doesn't have a confirmed release date, it's expected to arrive just in time for spring 2026, available from nike.com and select Nike Sportswear retailers. The shoe will retail for $130, with the style code IQ3472-298.
