Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is making a passionate plea, urging the constituency's electorate to look forward, not back, as they prepare for the upcoming by-election on November 27, 2025. He's framing the choice as a clear one: progress versus what he calls 'vengeful politics.'
Speaking at a campaign rally in Kivue, Kindiki didn't mince words. He cautioned against being used as 'pawns' in political games, especially by those who once held power but are now on the outside looking in. He accused these individuals of prioritizing sabotage and intimidation while in office.
Kindiki is firmly backing the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate, Leonard “Leo” Wamuthende, often referred to as Leo wa Muthende. He's positioning Leo as the candidate with a clear vision for the future, emphasizing a track record of development and a commitment to tangible benefits for the community.
"We cannot go to the opposition yet there are many development projects lined up in our area," Kindiki stated, highlighting the importance of staying the course with the current government. He's confident in Leo's chances, stressing that the election should be about concrete achievements, not settling old scores.
He painted a picture of Leo as a respectful leader focused on completing existing projects and starting new ones. Kindiki contrasted this with the actions of his critics, suggesting they did little for Mbeere North during their time in office.
Kindiki also took the opportunity to reaffirm his own role, stating that he is 'duly in office as the Deputy President of Kenya by right' and is committed to serving the people.
The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Geoffrey Kariuki Kiringa Ruku, the former Member of Parliament for Mbeere North. Ruku stepped down in April 2025 after being appointed Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes by President William Ruto. Ruku's resignation was submitted on April 16, 2025, and the seat was officially declared vacant, setting the stage for the upcoming election.
But here's where it gets controversial... Kindiki's strong stance against 'revenge politics' implies that some candidates are campaigning on a platform of retribution. Could this be a veiled reference to specific individuals or past grievances?
