BASF’s 2025 snapshot: supporting farmers through tough times with science and innovation
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, December 11, 2025 – Farmers faced extraordinary pressures in 2025, from weed management and disease challenges to volatile commodity prices. BASF remains dedicated to helping farmers—who feed the world—thrive in difficult environments by leaning on science, technology, and practical solutions that maximize every acre.
“2025 brought weather variances, ever-present weeds, and shifting markets that affected farm operations,” stated Scott Kay, Vice President of BASF Agricultural Solutions U.S. “This year we rolled out a number of programs and products to support growers. From InVigor® Gold, a groundbreaking canola seed, to the Real Results Yield Challenge that demonstrates, in a real-world setting, the performance benefits of our fungicides, BASF stayed true to its mission of helping farmers meet field-level challenges.”
BASF innovations and milestones in 2025, by the numbers:
- Introduced InVigorGold, a breakthrough canola seed technology. At a June event in Great Falls, Montana, over 100 growers, retailers, and other stakeholders gathered to preview a game-changing advancement aimed at unlocking the full genetic potential of Brassica juncea canola. InVigor Gold is anticipated to include hybrids with LibertyLink herbicide tolerance, built-in pod shatter resistance, and robust blackleg disease resistance. A key takeaway: its exceptional heat tolerance enables cultivation on land that may have previously been idle, opening new income opportunities for farmers and the broader agri-channel.
- Launched the Real Results Yield Challenge, enabling nearly 10% of fungicide users to compare Veltyma®, Revytek®, and Revylok® side-by-side against untreated or competitor products directly in their own fields. A key insight: even under heavy disease pressure this season, participants reported consistent yields and solid ROI.
- Continued a commitment to affordable protection through 0% APR financing on all participating BASF crop protection, seed treatment, and seed brands. A takeaway: expanding the Grower Finance Program gives growers more planning flexibility for 2026.
- Debuted Zorina™ fungicide, crafted to meet today’s toughest disease pressures. Zorina combines Endura® fungicide’s white mold performance with Revysol® fungicide’s durable, broad-spectrum control. A takeaway: farmers gain reliable protection across soybeans, canola, and dry beans with a single potent solution.
- Liberty® ULTRA herbicide saw extensive use across 60 million acres of canola, corn, cotton, and soybeans in its launch year. Growers and retailers experienced a 20% improvement in weed control versus standard glufosinate formulations, thanks to the Liberty Lock Formulation. A takeaway: beginning in 2026, the product will offer an elevated use rate structure for greater application flexibility.
- Surtain® herbicide delivered one of the largest corn PRE herbicide launches in the past 25 years. In its first year, it was applied across nearly two million acres to manage Palmer amaranth, waterhemp, and various grasses. A takeaway: performance remained strong despite weather variability, delivering effective pre-emergence control of challenging weeds.
- Six new FiberMax® and Stoneville® cotton seed varieties expanded BASF’s cotton portfolio to 13 varieties, all featuring Axant™ Flex herbicide tolerance technology and three-gene insect control with TwinLink®Plus trait.
- Opened the FiberMax® One Ton Club™ Sweepstakes for the 21st year, inviting farmers who yield a ton or more of FiberMax cotton in 2025 to join an exclusive club and win prizes such as a two-year lease on a Ford® Super Duty® F-350 Lariat® truck.
- Hosted the Biofuels Summit in February, drawing more than 60 stakeholders from renewable fuels, sustainability, and agriculture to the BASF Center for Sustainable Agriculture. Attendees explored how climate-smart farming connects with value chains like biofuels, sustainable aviation fuels, and green chemicals to shape the sector’s future.
- Welcomed 74 cotton farmers and their families to five meetings between December and February to discuss results from over 200 Agronomic Performance Trials (APT). Attendees helped plant, grow, and harvest BASF test plots for cotton seed, contributing to the selection of FiberMax® and Stoneville® cotton varieties for the following year.
BASF maintains close collaboration with retailers and farmers, dedicating 11 cents of every dollar earned to research and development. This ongoing investment fuels a robust pipeline of integrated solutions—ranging from next-generation seed traits and biologicals to advanced crop protection products—designed to boost flexibility and field performance for growers.
